THE B-SIDE

B-Sides are artworks or remixed pieces selected from a final art series B-roll that has not been previously released in any collection or series privately or publicly. These are artworks that are noteworthy in their own right, they are exclusive and released at any point in time by the creator with a limited edition of 1 only.

This photograph, ‘Whitehouse Creek’, is a composite of 2 photographs from the same location. It is the only photograph treated in this manner from the Light.Ash.White series and the B-roll. My approach to this type of treatment is done as a test in the physical environment, to push the tools I’m using on location and to also test the artistic concept and whether it can be achieved.  

For a particular composite such as this, each photograph is taken within the same camera body, lens, focal length and time of day. The only difference being the photographs were taken on consecutive days and different physical locations within the same area. Planning this type of approach requires an understanding of composition and depth within each frame. Once carefully composited there is a seamless blend of balance between the elements of foreground and background.

When shooting the series, I came across a particular area looking out to the South East of Lake Mountain, Victoria. The area provided an incredible scene of perspective, size, scale, illusion with a combination of rolling hills ascending the mountain and the scarred tall denude trees that were captured in the series.

This became the scene that I played with for ‘Whitehouse Creek’ and the final image that is presented as the limited edition 1 of 1 from the B-roll.
